Activities to do with your baby

Babies are cute, but they can be a handful. You miss them when they're sleeping, but wonder what you can do with them once they're awake, fed, and clean, and that's particularly true when they're active, little beings. After all, their attention span is short, and they need lots of colors and movement to attract them. Babies can get bored easily, and when they're bored, they tend to get fussy.
So what kind of activities keep babies beady-eyed and happy? Well, one thing's for sure, you don't need to be jumping on your feet the whole time they're awake. There are various activities you can do that don't require much energy being consumed, and some of them even calm the baby down.
From my own trial and error, I found a few activities that seemed to fascinate the baby and keep him attentive. I'm still learning - still trying to discover new things we can do together to pass the time with minimal fussiness. The following list includes some activities you can do with your baby when they're awake:

  • Hand and foot prints
  • Peek-a-boo
  • Watch television together.
  • Start a conversation with them using baby language (babbling).
  • Have a walk in nature while holding them in a baby carrier.
  • Blow bubbles.
  • Have a snack together.
  • Tummy time together (You can also try putting objects on the floor for them to try and reach. This works for infants who have not yet started crawling.)
  • Play ball.
  • Read to them.
  • Put them in the stroller and walk around at the mall.
  • People-watch at the park.
